Intelligent and Innovative Surveillance and AI Technology for Waste Management, Greece
Job opening
The I-Waste project is financed by the Greek “National Strategic Reference Framework 2021-2027” of the Program “Competitiveness 2021-2027” (co-funded by the EU), in the context of the Action “Research-Innovate”.
The project aims to develop and demonstrate an integrated, AI‑enabled platform designed to modernize waste‑management operations in urban and industrial environments. By combining Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), high‑resolution imaging, and cloud‑based data processing, the platform enables real‑time monitoring of waste volume, weight, condition, and spatial distribution.
Data collected from ground sensors, cameras, and UAVs are processed within the AIHub, where advanced artificial‑intelligence models support key functions such as automated waste‑type identification, optimized routing for collection vehicles and UAVs, and recommendation systems that enhance operational decision‑making.
Complementing this, the EcoData Hub provides a centralized control and coordination interface, allowing real‑time oversight of collection activities, improving efficiency, and reducing operational costs.
The project’s solutions will be validated through pilot applications in Western Macedonia, assessing performance, reliability, and scalability. Overall, I‑WASTE aims to significantly improve waste‑ management practices, reduce environmental impacts, and strengthen the sustainability and resilience of modern cities.
